A Year Without Wal-Mart
UPDATE: It’s already August, the year is half over! And guess what? We are still on track with a few of our New Years Resolutions. My family and friends have completely accepted the fact that we will not go to or buy from WalMart. We still have paper towels left from the first of the year, they are strictly mandated to be used for smushed dog poop, hard to pour grease, or something completely needy! Using washcloths, cloth napkins, cloth diapers, cloth wipes, reusable cups and plates and a ton of dish cloths has been great for us! I also reuse all plastic bags, take reusable bags to the grocery store, and reuse/regift wrapping materials. We have saved alot of money on paper goods.
Another factor that we have saved on is junk, we don’t buy the junk that we used to. Now I know that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but we have SO MANY TREASURES that there is NO ROOM for any added bootie! I don’t get lost in the black hole and spend $100 on things I don’t need or use! We also have been utilizing Stillwater’s Recycling Drop Off for our glass, plastic (1&2), paper, and aluminum. Our compost pile is very lush and wormy and doing fabulous with all our veggies and fruit leftovers. Doing these two things helps to cut down on our home trash.
Now I have 2 more things to establish before the year is done and they will be my upcoming goals or trials!
Upcoming trials and tribulations: I have a garage full of my parents TREASURES. My goal is to have it cleaned out by January 2011. Now I only need one thing, their HELP!
And I need to exercise and get active in a homeschooling play group.
Okay so that is three more goals that are do-able!
