SWIM DIAPERS
This summer consider a new GREENER option. If you don’t want to use or can’t use cloth diapers consider using cloth swim diapers. You only need two for a season of swimming!
One to put on baby, one to have in case that one gets pooped in.
A disposable swim diaper has one purpose and then it’s thrown away. It goes on baby, holds poop in, goes in the trash and your day is done $0.70 is in the trash, never to be used again, and might never decompose. (sources aren’t exactly clear on when or if a diaper can or might decompose SO I’m saying might never decompose) (did you see WALL-E?) Also, these diapers don’t hold in pee, so you can’t even substitute it for a let’s run an errand kind of diaper! Only purpose: keep poo out of pool!
Consider this instead:
A reusable cloth swim diaper does the same function, it keeps poop in the diaper (not the pool) but then is reused. So around $10-20 per diaper to be used all year (depending on your swimming season). The diaper can then be passed on to friends or family to use or thrown away. If for some reason you’re out of diapers, put some absorbency in your swim diaper and viola’ a quick diaper is made. (absorbency meaning a prefold/insert/tshirt)
If the swim diaper is pooped in, you shake poop into toliet, flush it and then wash the diaper when you get home. Hang up to dry.
Another great thing to think about for your summer activities are wet bags and pail liners. These are waterproof bags used mainly for holding diapers/wipes but they work great for wet towel, swimsuits, and gear for the pool/beach! Put all your wet or soiled items in the bag, throw it all in the washer when home and dry or hang dry to use over and over again!
